politics and power

The word "politicking" is synonymous to power-tripping.

In a community meeting I attended yesterday, I saw my Mayor doing his "politicking". In response to a constituent complaint(s), he ordered the appropriate department head to resolve the issue by the next day, criticized the council person representing the constituent for "not" doing their job (without having any prior knowledge of what the council person has actually done), then pat himself in the back. This is not my idea of taking leadership and responsibility.

Context is decisive. When the Mayor's context of helping a constituent became blurry and got "politicking" involved, well it became very apparent.

I wish that the Mayor would "politic" 365 days a year so that all constituent concerns will be solved by the next day.

Mayor I forgive you but don't make a habit of it. As human beings, we all make mistakes. We are thrown to making ourselves look good and making others wrong. My request is that you take out the "politicking" out from your agenda and simply be of service to your constituents.

As you can see, I have a love/hate relationship with politics. You will see this more in future blogs...
