Open Air

This past thanksgiving was probably the best one yet to my recollection. Not that I'm big on Thanksgiving and most other holidays.

Had lunch with my family at Iberia, a great Portuguese restaurant in Newark, where we had lobster and Rodizio, an absolute meat fest. Had dinner with Rolando's family, with his mom and niece Rizalina visiting from Florida. Of course, partied almost the entire weekend with friends.

I particularly enjoyed seeing on Friday night our friend Ginny who is on a break from Georgetown. We lived on the edge, having dinner at Garlic Rose, and conversing about her trip to Afghanistan, politics, the election, and the farce that we call Bush and his administration. Our crew (myself, Rolando, Julman, and Cheryl) then headed to Open Air, a lounge bar in St. Marks.

Now for those who know me, they know I love to dance. Here's a poem in the making.

in open air
rhythm is the lifeblood
that courses in our veins
conversations
are spoken through movements
of grace, love, and joy
night is day is night
light and dark bear no meaning
as a singular body
a pair or a collective
harmony exists
in the freedom of expression
of being for yourself
or being for another
devoid of judgement and fear
and living occurs in the moment
when the music connects with your soul
